Colonel Light Gardens is committed to providing a range of extra curriculum activities to engage and support students at lunchtime and afterschool. Clubs enable students to connect with students with similar interests and to try something new.
Clubs are offered mainly during lunch time and are provided on a volunteer bases by staff and volunteers at the school. Such as:
Students are expected to follow our school values when participating. Students meet the leader of the club in the designated area. Lunchtime clubs go from 1:10-1:40pm and allow students to have a break at the end before going back to class.
(Please note that the clubs offered year to year may change.)
Chess
One lunch time a week, students can practise playing chess. At times, chess is externally managed by external organisations. CLG provides facilities for these providers to conduct their classes only. The management of these classes is not the responsibility of CLG and all contact, enquiries and payments are to be made directly with the provider.
SAPSASA State-wide schools competition
At Colonel Light Gardens Primary School, we participate in a range of sports offered to year 5 and 6 students. Students trial for sports they are interested and are selected based on effort, communication, skills and teamwork. Selected students train prior to carnivals. Coaches are made up of school staff.
Attached is a list of sports students can sign up for both girls and boys.
Other events students can be involved in across the year are Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country.
Dance
Year 3-4
Every Thursday at GOGO, our energetic Year 3–4 CLG Dance Group comes together for a fun-filled movement, music, and creativity session. Students enjoy dancing and have the opportunity to lead the group, choreograph routines and add their own unique style. It’s a joyful and inclusive space where everyone can express themselves and be part of a team. These clubs offer students the chance to connect with others with similar interests, build confidence, and try something new.
The Year 3–4 Dance Group proudly showcases their talents throughout school assemblies and at our end-of-year concert nights, celebrating teamwork, creativity, and student voice through dance.
Year 5-6
Our Year 5/6 Dance Club meets every Tuesday at lunchtime. Participation is by audition, with rehearsals held in the school hall. The club provides a fun and creative environment where students learn dynamic dance routines, develop teamwork, and gain confidence through performance. Members also have the chance to choreograph their own dances, select music, and highlight their unique talents. Throughout the year, students showcase their work at school assemblies, our bi-annual Performing Arts Concert, and the End of Year Concert.
